The course "Neuroimaging and Pathological Biomarkers in Parkinson's Disease" is an advanced educational event and training opportunity designed for neurologists specializing in movement disorders, as well as for trainees with a focused interest in Parkinson’s disease and related conditions.

The course offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the latest developments in the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease. It emphasizes the role of neuroimaging, fluid, and pathological biomarkers within emerging conceptual frameworks for disease definition and classification, progression monitoring, and therapeutic decision-making.

The program is structured in two main parts:

The first part includes four sessions dedicated to neuroimaging, with a focus on molecular and magnetic resonance biomarkers targeting the dopaminergic, noradrenergic, cholinergic, and serotonergic systems. The latest imaging techniques are also discussed, including those for visualizing alpha-synuclein, tau, and amyloid deposition, as well as neuroinflammation.

The second part explores innovative approaches to tracking disease progression using in vivo biomarkers - such as biofluids, olfactory mucosa, and skin biopsies - and post-mortem neuropathological analysis. Additionally, a session is devoted to the therapeutic management of Parkinson’s disease across its various stages, covering oral pharmacological treatments, infusion therapies, and surgical interventions, including deep brain stimulation (DBS) and MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS).

Led by a distinguished international faculty, the course equips participants with the practical tools needed to translate recent scientific advances into clinical practice, ultimately enhancing the diagnosis and management of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
